Residency Application Requirements

United States Graduates

The applicant must provide the following through ERAS:

  • A Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcripts
  • A medical school diploma and have graduated within the last 5 years
  • Passing scores on the USMLE parts I and II
  • Personal statement

United States/Foreign Medical Graduates

The applicant must show proof of eligibility by providing:

  • A certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) within the last four years

The applicant must also provide the following through ERAS:

  • A Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcripts
  • Personal statement

Non-US Foreign Medical Graduates

The applicant must show proof of eligibility by providing:

  • A certificate from the ECFMG within the last four years
  • Proof of permanent immigrant status: The program does not sponsor any visas.
  • Proof of completion of one year of clinical training in the United States

The applicant must also provide the following through ERAS:

  • A medical school diploma with notarized translation if not in English, and have graduated within the last 5 years
  • A Dean's letter with notarized translation if not in English
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcripts with notarized translation if not in English
  • Passing scores on the USMLE parts I and II
  • Personal statement

Residency Application Process

  1. The Mercy Health System Family Medicine Residency Program will ONLY accept applications through ERAS.

  2. Due to the large number of applicants, it is important for you to submit all letters of recommendations, exam scores, transcript and Dean's Letter as soon as possible.

  3. After reviewing applications, and if you have been selected for an interview, we will contact you.

  4. We will do our best to honor your first request, however, interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your spouse or significant other is encouraged to accompany you if possible. Please notify the program coordinator of this when scheduling your interview.

  5. Interviews will be scheduled from mid-September through January. Final candidate selection will be based upon your applications materials and personal interview.
